The EVA³ Podcast · Episode 5 · one a week from the white paper
Honest numbers.
Committed. Aligned. On a path to. Three words that sit in most sustainability reports, and three words the next standard does not reward. From 2028, new science-based targets need a dedicated Scope 1 target, verifiable zero-carbon electricity, stricter supplier engagement, a transition plan for larger companies and an independently verified baseline, and there is no line for committed. This episode is about replacing the advocacy voice with the evidentiary voice: a number, a validator and a name where an aspiration used to be.
Listen. Episode 5 · Honest Numbers (4:54)
Hosted by Madeleine Joubert; the co-host questions are a synthetic placeholder voice while the series is recorded. The argument and every figure are from the EVA³ white paper. Released Monday 26 October.
Aspirational verbs are a disclosure risk. Committed, aligned and on a path to have no line in version two of the science-based targets net-zero standard, mandatory for new targets from the first of January 2028: replace each with a number, a validator and a signature.
Greenwashing enforcement is built on five patterns: the hidden trade-off, no proof, vague language, irrelevance, and the lesser of two evils. Each has a counter-discipline, and every one of them is the same move: replace the adjective with the evidence.
Run the two-story test every quarter: read the investor narrative, what the CFO said at the last town hall and the procurement KPIs side by side. If they tell three different stories, that is the earliest signal of credibility risk, earlier than any disclosure review will find it.
Listen. Episode 4 · The Six Horizons (5:41)
Hosted by Madeleine Joubert; the co-host questions are a synthetic placeholder voice while the series is recorded. The argument and every figure are from the EVA³ white paper. Released Monday 19 October.
2026 to 2030 is the credibility window: the first three horizons are not optional, and they are the shortest. An honest baseline this year, validated targets and changed procurement KPIs by 2028, delivered and externally assured tonnes by 2030.
Every horizon needs one metric that matters, one owner, one horizon at a time. A programme tracking twenty metrics is tracking none, because nobody can tell which one moved the decision.
Sequence beats simultaneity: invest properly in each horizon rather than lightly in all of them. Most companies in 2026 are inside horizon zero without knowing it, a disclosure but not a baseline they would want audited. That is a starting line, not a verdict.
Listen. Episode 3 · From Slide to Spend (5:18)
Hosted by Madeleine Joubert; the co-host questions are a synthetic placeholder voice while the series is recorded. The argument and every figure are from the EVA³ white paper. Released Monday 12 October.
Two suppliers: ten dollars a unit at six point seven kilograms of carbon against ten dollars thirty at three point one five. On the should-cost model alone the cheaper one wins; with an internal carbon price the answer turns.
The price does not need to be precise, only decision-relevant: somewhere between fifty and a hundred and fifty dollars a tonne separates the choices.
One thing makes it stick: put the carbon-adjusted saving on the buyer's scorecard, so what winning looks like has changed.
Listen. Episode 2 · The Audit Decade (6:54)
Hosted by Madeleine Joubert; the co-host questions are a synthetic placeholder voice. Released Monday 5 October.
2030 is not a target, it is an audit: regulators, standard-setters, lenders and your own published commitments have fixed the moment someone external opens the books.
The gap is structural. Most boards hold a defensible plan; what they lack is a behavioural compact that survives three chief executive transitions and four budget cycles.
Planning for an audit changes three things: every pledge gets an owner, a delivery plan and audited milestones; sustainability moves into the machinery that already runs the business; and strategy describes the destination while behaviour decides whether you arrive.
Listen. Episode 1 · Why Nine Boxes (8:01)
Pilot episode, hosted by Madeleine Joubert; the co-host questions are a synthetic placeholder voice while the series is recorded. The argument and every figure are from the EVA³ white paper. The weekly series follows the six-session course arc from Monday 5 October.
The constraint was never strategy or ambition, it is behaviour, and the decision-making underneath the strategy.
Equal importance does not mean equal budgets. It means no pillar gets traded to zero to make another look good.
A decision examined through one lens is partial; a decision that satisfies fewer than three is not yet ready.

Watch, the story film (3:40)
Seventeen goals ranked against each other set us arguing. Nine cells, balanced and owned, set us delivering. Same destination, different physics.
Now score your own nine cells
The 3×3 Scan takes ten minutes and is free. If every cell comes out "established", the scan was performative, most honest teams find two or three cells that nobody owns.
